Oklahoma!

The classic stage musical from Rodgers & Hammerstein

Oklahoma! was the first ever stage musical written by the duo of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II and is based on Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs. Set in farm country outside the town of Claremore, Indian Territory, in 1906, it tells the story of farm girl Laurey Williams and her courtship by two rival suitors, cowboy Curly McLain and the sinister farmhand Jud Fry. A secondary romance concerns cowboy Will Parker and his flirtatious fiancée, Ado Annie. The original 1943 Broadway stage show was a box office hit and ran for over 2,000 performances, followed by national tours, foreign productions and an Oscar-winning 1955 film adaptation. Oklahoma! has enjoyed numerous award-winning revivals, as recently as February 2023 at the Young Vic in London, and has long been a popular choice for amateur productions. This is the fourth time that YAOS has produced this fabulous show.
