'South Pacific' is considered to be one of the greatest Broadway musicals and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Many of its songs have become popular standards, including 'Bali Ha'i', 'I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair', 'Some Enchanted Evening', 'Happy Talk', 'Younger Than Springtime' and 'I'm In Love With A Wonderful Guy'.
A film version of the show was made in 1958 and the recent 2008 Broadway revival was a great success, winning seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival.
The setting for this show is a U.S. Navy base on a South Pacific island during World War II and the story deals sensitively with the issue of racism. A naive young Navy nurse, Nellie Forbush, becomes romantically involved with Emile de Becque, an expatriate French plantation owner, who is a widower with a dark past and two mixed-race children.
The warm, wonderful melodies of Rodgers & Hammerstein will surely transport you across the seas to the shores of Bali Ha'i.
'South Pacific' runs from Tuesday 13th March to Saturday 24th March 2012 at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil.
Performances will start each evening at 7.30 pm.
On Saturday 17th March there will also be a matinée performance starting at 2.30 pm.
Reduced Rate ticket prices at £12.00 will apply to the Opening Night, Saturday Matinee and on Monday 19th March, for all seats.
Full Rate ticket prices at £15.00 will apply to all other performances, for all seats.
